After you have completed the Foster Application and been accepted as a Bill Foundation Foster Parent we ask that you please review the following information. We appreciate your desire to help us by fostering a BF dog but in order to assure the safety and well being of your foster, and to assist with his or her adoption, we ask that you review the following information.

Please give your dog at least two or three days to settle in to your home. Remember these dogs have been living in a kennel, so a home is a big adjustment. They may not sleep through the night at first, they may or may not be housetrained, and there may be jealously issues between your new foster and your dog.

In our experience, with love and patience, these potential problems can be resolved. However, if you need to return your foster, we will take them back at any time. (If you call after 6 p.m. on a weekday or after 4 on the weekend, we would need you to keep the dog until the next day, as our kennels are not open after those hours.

As a Bill Foundation Foster you agree to the following:

  1. The adoption fair is held on most Sundays. Please view our schedule for specific dates and location (view schedule now). We ask that you deliver and pick up on time.
  2. Bill Foundation must approve all adoption applications, so please do not promise anyone that they can adopt your foster. Of course we are happy to receive adoption referrals and your recommendations. If you are considering adopting your foster yourself, we would discuss any serious applications with you before placing the dog in another home.
  3. Your foster must be kept on leash AT ALL TIMES when in an unfenced or unenclosed area - even when hiking, or just walking from your house to the car. All rescues are prone to being escape artists, especially in a new environment or when left alone. They may bolt out of an open front door. Be aware and be careful.
  4. Bill Foundation will be responsible for any expenses that may occur while the dog is in your care. If a veterinary visit is necessary, we prefer to use one of our vets (unless there is an emergency). We will provide food, a crate, and other items as needed.

Congratulate yourself on being an extraordinary person. It’s easy to say you want to help, but by taking a needy animal into your home, you are making a huge difference. Your commitment to help enables us to rescue more dogs from the shelter. Thank you!
