History of the Bill Foundation
In the beginning there was Bill…a 10-month-old Golden Retriever and Lab mix we found starving and filthy, foraging in a trash can in August 1988. For ten years Bill was a part of our family. He brought us laughter, joy and the kind of wonderful companionship that only a dog can provide.
When we lost our Bill to cancer in 1998, we resolved to honor his memory by working to save other dogs like Bill who deserve a second chance at life. It was shortly after that the Bill Foundation was born. An all volunteer organization, our mission is to rescue as many adoptable dogs as possible and place them in loving, permanent homes.
Though only a few years old, we continue to grow. Bill Foundation was instrumental in saving the lives of over 1000 dogs in LA County. In its first year the Bill Foundation rescued more than 260 dogs - the great majority from Los Angeles shelters - and placed them (all spayed or neutered, of course) in new and loving homes. In addition, we rescued approximately 200 more dogs on behalf of other rescue organizations.
Another goal of Bill Foundation is to promote responsible pet ownership. We have seen too much of the sadness and misery that fill the Los Angeles Shelters. Our website it filled with tips and suggestions to make your life with your pet a rewarding and happy one. We also support spaying & neutering your pet. If you or someone you know has an unfixed dog, please read our sections on Pet Overpopulation and the Spay/Neuter Option. Be part of the solution.
On a fun note, all the dogs used on this website are rescued dogs that have found new homes through the Bill Foundation.
We are extremely grateful to our adopters, supporters, fellow volunteers, and foster families. Without their invaluable support, we simply couldn't exist.
