Adoption Spotlite

This month we spotlite the terriers. People familiar with this group invariably comment on the distinctive terrier personality. These are feisty, energetic dogs whose sizes range from fairly small to the grand Airedale Terrier. Terriers typically have little tolerance for other animals, including other dogs. Their ancestors were bred to hunt and kill vermin. Many continue to project the attitude that they're always eager for a spirited argument. In general, they make engaging pets, but require owners with the determination to match their dogs' lively characters.

We have several terrier mixes who are looking for new homes. Be sure to check availability on our website to make sure the dogs featured here are still available.

Let's hear it for the terriers!

Harry (American Staffordshire Terrier): Harry is an 8 month old boy who was found at a gas station looking for someone to take him home. He had mange and very little hair (hence the name Harry) when we first saw him, now he is making tremendous strides in his recovery. He will be a lady killer when he grows up. Very sweet and playful, Harry will be very grateful when he has a family to call his own.

Charlie (Pit Bull Terrier ):  Looking for a perfectly trained dog with personality +? Charlie is a beautiful, loving 11month old red nose male "kiss-bull." He has georgous amber eyes, is extremely sweet, happy, and just completed an extensive 3 week training program at Canyon View Ranch. The only thing scary about him is how many kisses he will give you! Great with other dogs and children.

Ian (Wheaten Terrier Mix): Ian is a handsome, housetrained Wheaten X who needs a quiet, experienced adult home. He is gentle and loving with his owners but has been known to be territorial and aggressive toward strangers. A truly wonderful dog for the right home.

Greta (Wheaten Terrier Mix): Greta is a beautiful Wheaten mix female. She is about 2 years old and weighs about 40 lbs. She gets along fine with cats and other dogs. She is also housetrained. She does need to be with someone who is able to spend a lot of time with her. She has been professionally obedience trained at Canyon View Ranch. An extraordinary, loving dog who needs to be in a quiet adult environment. A blessing to whoever is lucky enough to have her as their companion.

Ivey (Jack Russell Terrier Mix): She is an adorable small dog, 3 to 4 years old. She came to us with a horrible looking skin condition, but one that has been successfully treated. Now we must find a loving, patient adult home to heal her emotional scars. Look for a before and after photo. She is in training to deal with her emotional rehabilitation.

Eli (Terrier Mix): Eli is one of those long, low-slung terrier mixes that we love. Body like a basset, but with a wire-terrier coat and moustache. He weighs about 32 lbs and is about one year old. A very friendly, solid, quiet tempered dog.

Romeo (Terrier,Poodle Mix):  Adorable terri-poo with a cute little underbite. Extremely affectionate in spite of having had the worst flea dermitits we've ever seen. He retained his trust and affection for humans in spite of terrible neglect. He is starved for attention and would do best in a home with someone who doesn't mind a lap dog.

Bridgett (Terrier Mix): Bridgett is temporarily unavailable until the new Disney search for Benji has been completed. Beautiful Benji look-a-like. About 10 months old, small spayed female, less than 20 lbs. She is in foster care, is housetrained, and very quick to learn. She may do better in an adult home, or a home with older children. She would prefer to be the only dog.

Jonas (Wheaten Terrier,Briard Mix): Large, friendly terrier X (about 50 lbs.) with Briard ears. Stong and exhuberant. Affectionate in spite of extreme neglect. Will be incredible dog when obedience trained.

Penelope (American Staffordshire Terrier Mix): Penelope was scheduled to be euthanized because it was Friday and the shelter needed space. She won the heart of a Bill Foundation volunteer by sitting up and stretching her paws through the bars of her cage and trying to kiss him. Obviously, this is a people-oriented dog.

Carter (Airedale Terrier Mix): Carter is a black and tan wire-haired terrier mix. He weighs about 40 lbs. and is about two years old. More informationa and photo to follow.

Posey (Jack Russell Terrier Mix): Sweet and kind of shy. About 17 lbs and a year old. Posey has now gone into a foster home and we were not surprised to learn that she is housetrained. Good in the car. Very easy and loving.

Linus (Terrier,Poodle Mix): Linus is an adorable terrier mix. About 12 lbs. and one to two years old. Very affectionate, loving, kissy-face small dog.

Eden (Terrier Mix): Scruffy, grey, 10 month old terrier who weighs about 25 lbs. This is a great looking terrier with a sweet disposition. High puppy energy - needs active family. Very affectionate.
