Hayden Act Saved!

Just when it seems the situation at the city shelters couldn't get any worse, Governor Schwarzenegger considered repealing the Hayden Act as part of his budget cuts. The Hayden Act is one of the few laws that provide protection for homeless, lost & stray animals in the state of California.  Animal lovers around the state went into high gear contacting the governor and their state representatives. Well, it seems to have paid off -- Governor Schwarzenegger just announced to the media that he made a terrible mistake proposing the repeal of the Hayden law. He said he loves animals and his daughter was of particular influence in recognizing the situation this repeal suggestion created.

Please take a moment to thank the Governor, your state senator and state representative (links below) and let them know you are happy the Hayden Act will remain in tact.

PLEASE also thank the conference committee members for their efforts to correct this error. Special thanks to Assemblymembers Koretz, Levine and Leno for showing their leadership on this issue as well.

The concerns of the animals were heard loud and clear. Please be sure your thanks are just as loud.
