Henry
One of my fosters was a senior dog named
Henry. His owners simply opened the gate and let him walk out. Even though one of their neighbors found him and posted signs, he was never claimed. After a short period, he was
rescued by Bill Foundation and placed in my care. He had very bad eyesight, close to blindness, but could probably see shadows and
shapes. He was also hard of hearing. I brought him home and gave him a bed in the kitchen. We didn't hold much hope of him being adopted due
to his disabilities and age, so he became a long term foster. A short time after he had been
at my house I noticed he had taught himself the dog door and was able to maneuver himself through the house without running into any walls for furniture. He learned the routine and
basically joined the pack. He was a fairly quite dog except at meal time when he let himself be known with a pretty large bark for such a small dog. He was a little timid and
shy as blind dogs are apt to be. The neighbor who rescued him said he had been primarily an outdoor dog and had been given very little attention by his owners. He was in
remarkably good shape for such a neglected dog. As a long term foster he was given a complete medical workup by the Foundation. We made sure he had plenty to eat and a
warm place to sleep. Even though now allowed to roam both in and outside the house, he often chose to spend time in the sun on the patio, enjoying the outdoors, but knowing he
was welcome in the house. He spent about three years with me before he died. While he was never officially adopted by me, I gave him a place on my pet photo wall since he
deserved to be remembered as part of a family.
