2002 Year end Wrap Up
As we look back over our third year, we are happy to report many positive developments and accomplishments for The Bill Foundation. This year TBF
helped 450 dogs find their forever home. Through our weekly adoption fairs, 237 dogs were adopted. TBF was also instrumental in saving quite a few other
dogs by assisting other organizations and breed rescues. One of our long-time volunteers, Noreen, worked with the Burbank Animal Shelter after it was
flooded with dogs, victims of an intolerable situation caused by a rescuer-turned-collector. Even after many years, she recognized some of the
dogs, who were now 7-12 years old, from her days of volunteering with the now-defunct rescue. Tirelessly devoting her time and energy to save the dogs,
she was very instrumental in getting quite a few of them placed. Also, Marsha, a
well known Los Angeles dog trainer and TBF volunteer, devotes quite a bit of her time assisting at the
Los Angeles Shelters and pulling dogs from the shelters to be adopted through TBF. She also offers
group training classes for dogs in need of a little additional work so that they might have a chance at finding a good home.
We also have many new volunteers this year working with the Bill Foundation. Doug Taylor has
devoted quite a bit of time to TBF, especially with the home checks & deliveries. His vivacious
personality and friendliness makes him ideal for this kind of work. Holly, has also joined our group of volunteers and has brought her expertise to the mix. And of course all of the volunteers who have
worked with us these past three years, thank you.
Our new website design and logo were thanks to another volunteer, Karen. You can read all about it in the newsletter (go to Website Makeover) Be sure
to check it out by going to our newly designed home page. Same address, new look.
We were also able to arrange for additional foster homes and are happy to report that over 10% of our dogs are now in foster care. While that is a step
in the right direction, we won't stop until we are up to 100%!
We held several fundraisers this past year to help
raise the much needed funds for TBF to continue its work. Art for Arts Sake was held in Beverly Hills at a boutique art gallery this past December (read all about it). Belle Aire and the gang of Legendary Bingo made for a wild and crazy
night of bingo. Alway entertaining, the evening was loads of fun with a guest appearance by Jane of The Go Go's fame. What a night!
We also participated in two very special adoption days. The first, in
February, took place at Beverly Hills bookstore, Storyopolis. Mutt's creator Patrick McDonnell was holding a book signing
and TBF was invited to participate by showcasing several of our family-friendly dogs. Mr. McDonnell also signed a book for TBF as an
auction item for a future fundraiser.
We also participated in the PAWS Spring Fair held in West Hollywood. Police canine demonstrations, pet accessory displays and a presentation by the mayor were only a few of the events at this all- day event.
In 2002 we also formed a board of directors with plans to eventually find a permanent facility, revamped our look and created a new website complete with an on-line store (read all about it).
With all of our positive steps towards helping the dogs of Los Angeles we realize there is still a lot of
work left to be done as more animals fill the Shelters everyday. We look to our supporters, volunteers
and foster parents to help us again in 2003. Please remember you can make a difference. From the
dogs placed last year, thank you for your hard work and devotion to their cause. It could not happen without your commitment.
